YouTube has changed the way we watch video-based content. For younger generations, it’s managed to surpass TV in just under 15 years as the default location for video entertainment. Indeed, for millions of youngsters across the world, television is seen as outdated and antique.

But is there more to YouTube than just teenagers watching other teenagers playing Fortnite? Of course there is, and for 4×4 enthusiasts, there are literally hundreds of channels dedicated to the hobby.

Here, we’ve picked through the chaff to bring you the wheat – what we consider to be the top five most interesting 4×4 channels on YouTube.

1. 4WD Action

This Australian channel is just the tonic for those of us stuck at home and longing for some adventure in the great outback. This channel has it all – tips for your own builds, reviews of the latest vehicles and some of the most epic driving footage you’ll see this side of Top Gear. This is also the official channel of the long-running magazine of the same name so you know there’s going to be some quality content here.

2. Grind Hard Plumbing Co

If you ever watched “Pimp My Ride” on MTV and wished someone would take that idea and apply it to the world of 4×4 and off-roading then wish no more! Not only do these Idaho-based mechanics use their channel to show off some epic builds such as the Toyota Tacoma rock crawler but they also convert tiny children’s vehicles into legitimate 4×4 monsters. Watching the “Barbie Jeep” tear up the dirt is something you’ll probably never forget.

3. 4xOverland

Andrew St. Pierre White is a little bit of a legend. In his not-so-humble Toyota Landcruiser, he’s taken on some of the toughest and most stunning overland trails in the world. His adventures in Africa alone are worth subscribing for and Andrew himself is never less than a compelling presence. The man himself states: “I’m half 4WD enthusiast, half filmmaker. Both of these pursuits germinated when I was very young, and developed alongside each other during my professional career.

4. Ronny Dahl

Heading back to Australia, Dahl and his father Brian provide a wealth of information and advice on off-roading in their native Western Australia. The advice is certainly not specific to the sandy dunes of the outback but if you’re interested in seeing what the region has to offer and how equipped Ronny’s rigs are to cope with it, you’ve come to the right place.

5. Expedition Overland

Perhaps the most famous name on this list of off-roading YouTube channels is saved for last. This channel just celebrated its 10th anniversary and it continues to rack up thousands of new subscribers every month thanks to Clay and Rachelle Croft’s likeable nature and the stunning remote places they visit together in their Landcruiser. This is probably a channel that’s going to inspire a little jealousy in those of us pining for an adventure but if you’re happy to live vicariously through a pretty adorable family (complete with dog) then fill your boots!
