Many people believe that a 4WD and traction go hand-in-hand: you cannot have one without the other. However, standard or open differentials are designed to allow each wheel to turn independently. Off road, this becomes a major burden as engine power will take the path of least resistance, which occurs at the wheels with little or no traction.
Vehicles with limited slip differentials may offer some improvement, but often you will find that the slipping is not limited enough to maintain forward progress. Automatic locking diffs also have their disadvantages. Aside from being noisy when disengaging, they can also upset the on-highway driving characteristics of the vehicle. Only a fully locked differential can give you maximum traction at both wheels, when you need it most.

“Does the kit contain all required parts?”
If you are purchasing an ARB Air Locker plus an ARB air compressor (any size), you will have all parts needed for a standard installation, with the exception of carrier bearings.
“Do I need replacement carrier bearings?”
Some Air Lockers require different size carrier bearings, although this is rare.
“Is drilling required?”
Drilling is required to run the air line through the housing.
“Are special tools or skills needed?”
Full instructions are supplied and most steps can be performed by any competent mechanic with standard tools. You will need to perform setup as you would with a standard differential.
“Can I use my existing ring and pinion?”
Yes, these parts are normally retained and re-fitted.
