When conditions get tough, standard shock absorbers are prone to failure. Many manufacturers use low quality seals, which are prone to leaking. End fittings are often spot-welded and outer tube walls can be thin and incapable to surviving impacts. Due to these limitations, shock absorbers are the most failure-prone suspension component.
After many years in the shock absorber industry, and already the market leader in heavy duty dampers for buses, trucks, military vehicles and railway carriages, Koni set out to design a market-leading product specifically aimed at the off-road Raid market. For those unfamiliar with the term, RAID refers to long-distance off-road racing, with competitions and events usually taking place over several days. For shock absorbers to survive Raid use, they need to be exceptionally strong and durable, both in terms of their internal components and their external structure.
Koni RAID shocks are designed to be a non-sophisticated but effective product, with sufficient comfort for road driving but also the durability to win competitions and to withstand external damage without affecting internal components. Koni RAID has been used in races and events worldwide, including the Paris-Dakar Rally. RAID shocks were selected by Top Gear for their successful attempt to drive to the North Magnetic Pole in 2007.
Koni RAID shocks are off-vehicle adjustable. This allows you to adjust the rebound forces in order to correctly pair your damper to your springs or constant loads, to enhance performance and increase lifespan. Now you can bring high-level race technology to your 4WD or truck.
