While the Mercedes-Benz eSprinter is making all the right moves in the electric vehicle market, the Sprinter W907 has an enviable reputation of its own as a spacious, easy-to-drive, stylish and efficient van option.

Rated five stars by many industry experts and van drivers, this third-generation model has been applauded for its road handling as Honest John reveals:

“As with previous generations of the Sprinter, road handling is among the best of any large van and this allows even the most inexperienced of drivers to feel confident behind the wheel. Ride composure is excellent too, which means the van remains comfortable and predictable on twisty and bumpy roads, even when carrying a full load.”

No vehicle is beyond improvement, however. With the right upgrades, you can improve the ride and handling of your Sprinter W907 even more. In this blog post, we shine the spotlight on two of the best shock upgrades for your Sprinter.

What are Koni Active Shock Absorbers?

Koni Active Dampers have been specially designed and developed for the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Series 3 W907 W910 2WD 2019-on. Unlike many other shock absorbers on the market, they’re heavy-duty and self-adjusting making them ideal for use both on the road and off.

Countless vehicles are sold with very rudimentary suspension systems as standard, which makes them only suitable for very light off-road use.

Popular with motorhome owners and adventure travel enthusiasts, Koni Active Dampers use state-of-the-art internal valving technology to guarantee optimum handling and drip, enhance driving experience, boost on-road comfort, and avoid suspension failures.

How do Koni’s Special shocks compare?

While often mentioned in the same breath as Koni’s Active dampers, Koni Special Dampers are entirely different.

The former is well known for its automatic adjustment system. Special shocks are however off-car user adjustable. With Specials, you push the shock all the way closed and turn the piston rod to adjust. Adjusting by half a turn equals a 15% firmer or softer ride. With this in mind, our Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Series 3 Koni Special Dampers can be altered to suit a wide range of uses.

Which shocks should I choose?

If you intend to drive on rough terrain, indulge in a heavy build, tow heavy loads safely, or enjoy an off-road adventure or two, upgrading to Koni dampers is certainly recommended.

Koni dampers are already extremely popular amongst motorhome and van users, and do a fantastic job improving ride and stability. However, it is your future plans that will dictate whether Koni Active or Special dampers are right for you.

There are many advantages to using an adjustable shock absorber like the Koni Special, with its off-car adjustment accommodating future vehicle changes or weight additions without the need for replacement.
