Britpart was founded in Shropshire, UK in 1983 by David Beddow. As a Land Rover fanatic and intrepid explorer, Beddow had travelled extensively across Africa in his Series Land Rover, with a stash of spare parts on hand in case of a breakdown. Repeatedly during David’s trips, locals would ask if he had Land Rover parts to sell – often offering way in excess of the retail price to secure high quality parts.

Upon his return home, Beddow set about developing a parts business which would help give Land Rover enthusiasts and commercial users everywhere the opportunity to access spare parts without having to rely on the established dealer network. In Africa and elsewhere, obtaining parts often meant either paying dealer prices or buying second-hand items.

Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Britpart grew from a small and specialist business to one of the largest Land Rover parts specialists in the world. The business was constantly finding new suppliers and dealers across the world and as a result of this growth the cost of maintaining a Defender or Discovery was falling whilst availability of parts and upgrades was increasing exponentially.

With Britpart, the end user often has a choice of price and quality points to choose from. For example, if replacing your brakes, the selection of options available goes from the most cost-effective and basic parts to suit light users or those on a really tight budget – up to Land Rover genuine parts and then on to premium upgrades. This breadth of range has seen Britpart add over 100,000 different parts to their inventory, from a washer to a replacement chassis.

In recent years, there has been a significant growth in the market for Land Rover upgrades for both work and adventure travel. One of the best-selling upgrades has been the Britpart winch range. With a selection of different line pull ratings available and a choice of either steel or synthetic rope, Defender and Discovery owners have been able to easily install these upgrades to their vehicles thanks to Britpart’s range of winch bumpers and hidden winch mounts.

Another high quality offering in recent years is the Expedition range of roof racks. These alloy racks are large, heavy duty, and available for Defender and Discovery models old and new – including the current Defender 110 model. These best-selling roof racks are great for both domestic and trade users.

Thanks to having acquired a huge site in Shropshire in the 1980s, Britpart have been able to continue their expansion program in recent years – with replacement chassis, body shells, engines and transmissions among their many newer products. You could literally build a complete new Land Rover from their shelves – in fact, you could build a whole fleet of them.

4×4 Works are proud to be a leading Britpart retailer, with a small but carefully formed offering of Land Rover upgrades in our inventory. We have access to the full parts and upgrades range, so do ask if you need anything which you don’t see on our website.
