Filter byBushranger, or at least its parent company Kingsley Enterprises, was founded in 1977 in Sydney, Australia, by Russell Fox. Russell realised that, although the 4×4 upgrades market was fast-growing by the 1970’s, the market was focused on suspension or on fabricated goods such as bull bars and roof racks. For a successful trip into the outback, so many other upgrades and accessories are needed – so Kingsley Enterprises started work on designing the required upgrades.
Early products included louvre windows for Kombi vans, Supervent replacement rear windows for vans and trucks, StepBoards and wheel covers. Mostly sold under their own individual brand names, these were innovative and useful products, and the Australian market welcomed them.
By 1994, the Bushranger name was coined, and the company embarked on a significant market expansion – eventually becoming a highly visible brand in every 4WD store and at trade shows and 4×4 meets across Australia. The company invested in building their workforce and establishing manufacturing locations, opening two sizeable factories in Australia. By the end of the 1990s, Bushranger offered more than 5,000 products and accessories for a huge range of 4WD models and vans, from the Hilux and Land Cruiser to the Ranger and L200.
The Bushranger name was probably most associated with recovery gear (including the famous X-Jack exhaust jack) and lighting, and the products had become an increasingly common sight in Europe and the Americas. It seemed that the 4×4 world had a taste for high quality Australian upgrades and accessories.
In 2003, ARB Corporation purchased Kingsley Enterprises. Although there was some crossover in terms of the two brands’ product ranges, the vast majority of Bushranger products were unique offerings and therefore ARB decided to keep the company separate and allow Kingsley Enterprises to continue doing what the had always done best – innovating and meeting the needs of hardworking Australian tradespeople and intrepid outback adventurers.
Today, the Bushranger brand has gone from strength to strength and a few of their products are often seen in the UK and Europe. Their winches are innovative and have features not seen with other brands. Night Hawk LED lights are distinctively styled and offer high power and durably build quality and a reasonable price. The range still continues to grow, with air compressor kits, windows, garbage storage, bush showers, load restraints, steps, mud flaps, Flexy Flares, floor mats, jacks and their well-known range of recovery kits.
In the European market, Bushranger has always been a specialist brand and perhaps lacks the visibility of big brother ARB. If you get an chance to check out Bushranger products though, you will find that they are designed for hard work with a focus on durability but also with a distinctive aesthetic and their famous black white and yellow logo.
