Filter byMeyer was established in 1926 in Newburgh, New York, USA. The first manufacturing facility was located on a rural farm and it wasn’t long before Meyer’s ploughs were well known in the area. New York state experiences harsh winter weather with sudden and heavy snowfall, so it is important to have a durable and easy to attach plough to hand if you live in a rural location.
The 1920s saw the advent of the Meyer v-shaped plough. This plough was small and designed to be mounted to popular car models with a simple hitch system. The steel plough was supported by a tubular frame and was far superior to the home-made snow clearing equipment which was becoming a more common sight on US roads.
By the 1930s, Meyer were manufacturing increasingly larger and heavier ploughs for commercial users. With wide moldboards and heavy-duty construction, these durable devices were capable of clearing public roads and were deployed across the USA and beyond. The coming years saw innovations such as hydraulically and electrically operated ploughs which could be angled, lifted and lowered as required. It seemed that Meyer products were everywhere when winter came, and everyone from landowners to local authorities was keen to rely on Meyer for their broad range and high product quality.
In winter, there is an equal demand for spreaders, and Meyer developed several ranges for different types of users. From towbar mounted spreaders to larger bed mounted salt and brine units, the range was ever growing and Meyer had a product for everyone from the lowest scale user to the largest commercial application. Meyer products were becoming a familiar sight on the roads, at airports, in public car parks, at schools and elsewhere.
2015 brought a merger with the ASH Group, Europe’s leading manufacturer of snow ploughs, spreaders and control systems. ASH Group already owned two major European brands – Schmidt and Aebi – who were globally recognised and were offering primarily industrial products for both winter and summer maintenance. Schmidt and Aebi were largely focused on industrial sectors, with equipment most suited to commercial, airport and railway use, so Meyer was a perfect fit for ASH Group with their smaller products and huge customer base.
After many decades of dealing with the harshest of American winters, Meyer was well placed to offer their products into the UK and European markets. Meyer have always been known for high quality and for long-lasting products in a market where the cheapest ploughs may only last one or two seasons. Whilst not the cheapest winter products out there, when you buy Meyer you are buying a product which will last and last.
