Ryco was founded in 1936 by W J K Morrison in the western suburbs of Melbourne, Australia. With a love of early motorsport and a background in the world of finance, Morrison knew that there was a growing demand for high quality filtration parts.

In 1930’s Australia, finding spare parts was hard enough, let alone finding high quality parts which could cope with Australian heat and with the dusty, long straight roads of the outback. As Morrison knew well, many of those who were brave enough to drive cross-country in their Ford or Holden, would not make it back without some kind of drama or failure.

So successful was the Ryco product range in the early years that Morrison branched out into hydraulics, setting up a new plant at Whitehall Street in Footscray in 1946. A comprehensive range of hydraulic hoses and fittings was developed under his watchful eye, and with a few years the Ryco logo could be found on car, truck and machine parts across the country and overseas.

Keeping ahead of the market meant developing a large and growing range, and by the 1960s Ryco was producing parts for over 150 vehicle models. Manufacturers were keen to spec their new models with Ryco products, as the name was synonymous with quality and durability.

At the core of the business is a range of simple but effective car and truck filters – oil, fuel, air and cabin filters being the most common. For nearly 100 years, Ryco have been synonymous with this market and their parts can be found Across Australia, in every town and on millions of vehicles.

With Australian motorsport championships growing across the country, Ryco started to develop uprated parts for race teams and eventually became a headline sponsor and partner of several of the largest events.

By the 1990s, Ryco were offering filters and other parts for over 350 vehicle models and, from their humble beginnings in pre-war Melbourne, the company grew to over 500 staff with distribution facilities across the globe and assembly plants in Australia, North America, Europe and Asia.

In 2020, Ryco merged with Manuli Rubber Industries, to form Manuli Ryco Group. The new company supplies key components to the mining industry, construction, marine and automotive – and their products can be found anywhere where performance and reliability are critical.

4×4 Works are proud to partner with Ryco to bring their high quality filter kits to the UK and European markets. With this useful product range, all key filters can be purchased as a single kit, with a guarantee of quality and long filter life.
