We love the Toyota Land Cruiser for so many reasons – you can check out a few of those here – and the 105 Series (1998-07) is a particular favourite. While not the flashiest off-roader, the 105 Series was one of the most celebrated utility vehicles of its era. The 1998 model was applauded for many improvements on its predecessors as MotorTrend details:
“The Land Cruiser design team literally began the process from the ground up, starting with a major revamp of the vehicle’s already robust ladder frame that increased the crossmember count from six to nine. That change, combined with the use of precision welding techniques, special flared flange joints, and a new single-piece body side stamping yielded a 50-percent increase in structural rigidity over the previous model. The Land Cruiser’s underpinnings and steering also were upgraded for ’98.”
Fast forward almost three decades, and the 105 Series is still impressing off-road enthusiasts. If you are lucky enough to call one of these classic 4x4s your own, make this iconic model even slicker with the following enhancements.
1. Koni Heavy Track Raid Dampers
Introduce heavy duty, adjustable shock absorbers to your Land Cruiser courtesy of Koni’s Heavy Track Raid Dampers. These dampers are designed for use both on and off the road, which already makes them a cut above the average as most are suitable for light road use only.
Delivering durability, even in tougher conditions, it’s no surprise that Koni dampers are a market leading mod for buses, trucks, military vehicles and railway carriages. This particular product has been made specifically for the 105 Series and is off-road adjustable to boost lifespan and performance in the same breath.
2. AVM Free Wheeling Hubs
Offering the original and best free wheeling hubs, AVM is a 4×4 upgrade brand that has a long and colourful history. It uses its experience and market know-how to add a heavy duty touch to the most in-demand 4WD products, including their signature, ultra-durable AVM Free Wheeling Hubs.
Reduce driveline wear and minimise rolling resistance with a simple twist of the hub’s lever, disengage for road use and re-engage for off-roading, and enjoy!
3. DBA Xtreme Performance Brake Pads
The brakes of your Toyota Land Cruiser are another component that will be put under some serious strain when indulging in your love of off-roading. As the name suggests, these vehicle-specific DBA Xtreme Performance Brake Pads take brake performance up a notch to deliver results even under challenging conditions.
This brake upgrade is ideal for heavy 4WDs and SUVs, track days, heavy towing and commercial users, and promises improved initial bite and braking consistency across low to high temperature ranges.
4. DBA Performance Brake Calipers
Those performance brake upgrades aren’t over just yet. Improve your setup further by adding DBA Performance Brake Calipers to your 1998-07 Cruiser. They provide a heavy-duty, direct replacement solution that’ll save you time and money, as well as restore the brake performance levels of your 105 Series back to their best.
